THRACE. Maroneia. Circa 189/8-49/5 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 16.45 g, 12 h). Head of youthful Dionysos to right, wearing tainia and wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. ΔIONYΣOY - ΣΩTHPOΣ / MAPΩNIT[ΩN] Dionysos standing front, head to left, holding grapes in his right hand and narthex stalks in his left; in inner left field, monogram; in inner right field, Θ. HGC 3.2, 1556. Schönert-Geiss 1099-1108. SNG Copenhagen 637. Beautifully toned and of lovely early style. Struck from a slightly worn reverse die and with light marks and scratches, otherwise, good very fine.
